Roads and Maritime Services has advised heavy vehicle drivers that a reduced load limit applies from today for at least three months on the Towong Bridge on Towong Road across the Murray River.
A recent inspection of the bridge has found damage to timber sections of the bridge and a load limit of 15 tonne will be in place to reduce the likelihood of further damage.
Roads and Maritime will continue planning the most efficient way to carry out permanent repairs to ensure the bridge continues to safely serve motorists into the future and remove the load limit.
Electronic message signs will be in place to advise of detours for vehicles heavier than 15 tonne via Tintaldra Bridge on Tintaldra Road and Bringenbrong Bridge on the Alpine Way.
Motorists are advised to plan their trip with detours added around 20 minutes to journey times.
Roads and Maritime thanks motorists for their patience and understanding.
