RAYMOND SUTTON WINS LBCA YOUNG DRIVER AWARD
The Livestock and Bulk Carriers Association (LBCA) is pleased to announce Wagga Wagga local, Raymond “Reggie” Sutton, as the inaugural winner of the LBCA Young Driver Award.
The award, sponsored by SafeWork NSW, recognises outstanding young drivers under 35 who demonstrate a best practice approach to driving and safety. The major prize was a $5,000 trip to the USA.
Reggie will soon be on his way to Washington DC and Indianapolis, and Las Vegas to gain an understanding of international livestock transport and handling practices.
“A local to Wagga Wagga, Reggie is a worthy recipient and wonderful role model for the rural transport industry. Over the coming year, he will help to promote rural transport as a viable, long term career choice for young people”, said Jock Carter, LBCA President.
“Rural transport is an essential service and we have an aging workforce. Without rural transporters, Australian produce wouldn’t get from the farm gate to the table. The job is a lot more challenging than people realise – the hours are long, the work can be dangerous, and compliance can be complicated”, said Mr Carter.
“The LBCA Young Driver Award recognises our top young drivers and showcases their commitment to safety and best practice. It’s something we should all strive for and be proud of,” said Mr Carter.
Director of SafeWork NSW Operations Group, Tony Williams said SafeWork NSW is proud to sponsor the inaugural award.
“The international study tour will help raise awareness of best practice approaches to livestock transport which it is hoped will translate into less injuries and incidents across the industry,” Mr Williams said.
