Applications will be shortlisted and up to five finalists identified.  The winner will be announced at the annual LBRCA Conference on 24 March 2018 in Coffs Harbour.  The winner will be required to be available to participate in some media activities throughout 2018 and may be required to travel (at the expense of the LBRCA).  Naturally, the winner will be responsible for promoting our industry as a viable and rewarding career choice throughout the year as well.

The award is sponsored by SafeWork NSW with the major prize being a $5,000 trip to the USA, that provides the winner an opportunity to experience the heavy vehicle freight industry in another country (through an organised international study tour) as well as give the winner some well rewarded R&R.  Our previous winners have undertaken their R&R in different parts of the USA; one in Las Vegas and the other in Texas!

“Rural transport is an essential service and we have an aging workforce. Without rural transporters, Australian produce wouldn’t get from the farm gate to the table. The job is a lot more challenging than people realise – the hours are long, the work can be dangerous, and compliance can be complicated”, said Mr Lynley Miners, LBRCA President.

“The LBRCA Young Driver Award recognises our top young drivers and showcases their commitment to safety and best practice. It’s something we should all strive for and be proud of”.

Director of SafeWork NSW Operations Group, Tony Williams said SafeWork NSW is proud to sponsor the award.

“The international study tour will help raise awareness of best practice approaches to livestock transport which it is hoped will translate into less injuries and incidents across the industry,” Mr Williams said.
